Begin your Luang Prabang countryside tour with an early departure from the city, heading north towards the province of Oudomxay. You will have time to enjoy a picnic lunch during our 4 hours travel. Beautiful scenery can be seen along the route to Oudomxay, provides plenty of entertainment and photo opportunities (stops are available upon request.) This northern region of Laos is known for its green mountains, with rice paddies, as well as coffee & tea plantations diving the areas into parts of wonders.
The region is also home to a variety of local tribes where you will get a chance to see small villages precariously perched on steep mountainsides and set in ancient river-carved valleys.
Passing through Oudomxay, you will notice how this province developed from a sleepy hill town into an important trade hub over the years, reflecting the changes rapidly spreading throughout the region. The journey will come to an end as you exit this bustle part to enter unspoiled natural surroundings. This noticeable contrast will highlight just how special the experiences are in the region’s remaining wilderness.
In the afternoon, you will arrive at Muang La Resort to check-in, relax, and enjoy the views. Facilities include a spa, sauna, and steam rooms. Muang La Resort is built next to a natural hot spring, therefore, the small pool is filled with hot spring water every evening for guest to relax in. In addition to the nightly hot spring option, evenings are marked by 5-course, set menu dinners of Asian and European influence. Today is the day for wandering feet to walk around nearby villages.
A suitable four-wheel drive will be arranged to take you through the steep mountain trails that provide access to the most untouched villages of the region. Special markets are often held, along will festivals are being celebrated in the region. (Note: please about the markets and festivals ahead of time for planning).
After breakfast, start the day with a visit to the entirely isolated village of Ikho, (home to the Akha people) an ethnic group originating from Tibet and Yunnan. The village is less known to most travelers; thus, you will notice a more authentic atmosphere compared to other popular ethnic villages. Your tour guide will carefully explain the daily life of villagers and how they still follow ancient customs which has been passing down from generations to generations.
Your outdoor picnic lunch will be accommodated with an amazing view at 1,000 meters above sea level overlook the village.
After lunch, take a 45 minutes scenic walk to the Hmong village of Ban Tauser. The remote route taken to access the village offers beautiful scenery, a perfect spot for taking your panorama picture. During this visit, learn all about the history of the Hmong (whose origins reach back to the high steppes of Tibet), their daily way of life, and the great importance of their livestock.
Return to the resort for relaxing at your own pace before dinner.

After breakfast, you will be transported by car to Muang Khua, a small town on the banks of the Nam Ou River. Board a private, long-tail boat for a cruise down one of the most scenic stretches of river in Laos. The Nam Ou is considered to be more striking, wild and less traffic compared to the Mekong. Enjoy a picnic lunch at a local restaurant on the way, more sightseeing of villages along stream.
(Note: The journey may require the use of two boats with a short 2km transfer in between as the Nam Ou 3 dam is being finished.)
Your last visit will be the Nong Khiaw, famous for its astounding limestone mountains. Arriving at the destination around late afternoon, checking into the accommodation on the banks of the Nam Ou River where you can enjoy the breathtaking sunset from your balcony.
