The far northern reaches of Vietnam are quite different from the rest of the country and expose a landscape of limestone pinnacles, granite outcrops and rice fields clinging to mountain verges creating spectacular sceneries. The slower pace of life in this region is a necessity to overcome the hard terrain, with hilltribes working hard to provide for daily needs. This adventurous program introduces travelers to local customs and meets with a number of hilltribes in their villages as you trek through the mountainous landscape.
Looming mist covered mountains characterize the region and provide endless opportunities for spectacular photos. From your starting point of Hanoi you will see a change of landscape as your guide drives towards the Chinese border. On reaching your first stop of Tuyen Quang, you will notice the cooler temperatures and have the chance to dine in a local restaurant. After a night at the Pan Hou Lodge, you will undertake a 16km trek to the local hill tribe village of Phin Ho, known in the area for its special herbal teas which are grown from local medicinal herbs. On the second night your accommodation is a homestay at Phin Ho where life remains simple and untouched by the modern influence of the outside world. The locals are friendly and welcoming, allowing a chance for travelers to better understand their practices and learn about life in the region.
Start in the morning from Hanoi to Ha Giang where you will see a colourful range of hill tribes, the exciting minority markets and explore the breathtaking mountainous scenery. The journey of 7 hour driving (280 Km) changes your view from the bustling city to the picturesque view of the mountainous area. Arrive Tuyen Quang around noon, have simple lunch in local restaurant thencontinue to the beautiful Hoang Su Phi area, check in Pan Hou Lodge, freshen up then Stroll surrounding the lodge where the rice terraces offer you the opportunity of life- time photos. Dinner in the Pan Hou Lodge restaurant. Overnight in Ha Giang.
Early morning, start your day with a trek of 16km to the hill tribe village of Phin Ho, which is home to 44 households with 238 Dao people.This village is well-know for tea. Most specific feature of Phin Ho Village is hundreds-year-old Shan Tuyet tea trees . The village has a total of nearly 50 ha of 50 to 150-year-old Shan Tuyet tea trees. Traditional culture in Phin Ho has been kept intactly, such as fire dance festival of Red Dao people held in the first lunar month. Pass through Red Dao village and enjoy the breathtaking scenery of rice terraces. Lunch at Giang Ha, a hill tribe village.
In the afternoon, Continue through green valleys nestled between tapestry mountains and remote hill top villages –Enjoy the spectacular natural beauty as well as colourful Red Dao the Black Dao hill tribe people that you probably meet en route.
In the late afternoon arrive at the village of Phin Ho. You will see how life is simple here. It seems that it is untouched by the modern influence and experience your day with a homestay of the friendly local people here. (The home stay accommodation consists of simple curtained-off sleeping areas in one long room; all bedding and mosquito nets are provided).Dinner and overnight in a homestay in the village of Phin Ho.
Have a simple breakfast then treeking back towards Hoang Su Phi and and the Pan Hou Lodge. The remaining distance of the trek today is oly 9km through a Black Tay hill tribe villages. Arrive at the lodge by lunch time. Lunch and the rest of the day is free for relax. Dinner and overnight at the Pan Hou Lodge.
Have breakfast at your LOdge then drive back to Hanoi. Have lunch in a local restaurant. Arrive Hanoi in the late afternoon.
